This Mother Stood Against Society & Fate To Provide Her Daughter Education

A positive and engaging environment encourages children to do and be better. They feel supported and develop several skills that cannot be taught through school or education. A parent and the values they believe in shape the future of any child. So it is important as parents to be good role models.

This is the story of Stuti Kautuk Kurane, a class 7 student in Balaji Nagar, Maharashtra. She comes from the weaker section of society and lives with her mother, siblings, maternal uncle and aunt. Her father lives in another part of the same village. Owing to his job as a driver, he is continuously on the move and prefers to stay alone. But, he cares about his family a lot. He visits his daughter and other family members once a month.

Her mother is also a domestic worker, earning for the family and her children’s education. However, she receives no support from neighbours and other peers. She is often told not to support her daughter’s education as she comes from a financially weak family. They urge Stuti’s parents to get her married and get some dowry to sustain the family.

But, Stuti’s mother never takes heed to their comments or suggestions. She strongly assures them that she will manage both her daughters’ education.

However, during the pandemic, Stuti’s mother lost her job and education was made online. It became impossible for Stuti’s mother to purchase the necessary resources. Monika had no books, stationery or digital devices to study. But Stuti’s mother did not give up.

She researched other opportunities that can help her daughters and learned about the Digital Learning Centre (DLC) in Balaji Nagar, Maharashtra. Today, Stuti is continuing her education in English and uses tablet devices to study, which she finds very exciting. At the centre, she gets new experiences, interacts with different people, and continuously develops life skills.

Stuti dreams of becoming a dancer. She was able to explore this interest, at the centre, with the help of balwadi programs. Stuti is a quick learner and the topper in her batch.
