After 27 Years Of Marriage, This Woman Is Empowering Herself Through Education

In rural areas, women are restricted from education much earlier in life and prevent their growth. Families worry about the cost of education and future expenses which include the fee paid, books bought, uniforms made etc. This influences their decision of whether their daughters should continue taking an education or not.

When girls drop out of school at such a young age, they are forced to do chores at home and take care of the family. In extreme cases, they are married off to older men or exploited for money.

Hansaben Premji Parmar is a resident of Ahmedabad, Gujarat and is currently in her late 40s. She is a school dropout who was married at a young age. Today, she has been married for 27 years and is a homemaker.

Married off so early, Hansaben never got the chance to learn computers, technology or science. But she is always open to learning new concepts and expanding her knowledge.

Having learnt about the BharatCares initiative to empower women with basic computer and digital literacy skills, she was elated to register herself.

After joining the training program at BharatCares Vejalpur Centre, learns how to work remotely, get access to the latest news and other things with the help of the internet.

Hansaben says, “After getting married, we do not get time to learn or study. With such opportunities coming our way, we feel motivated and want to learn more. Thank you BharatCares team and keep doing more such projects for women.”
