Digital learning is the new age mantra in domain of education which intends to revamp the traditional academia of teachers-learners ecosystem. The idea of e-learning is to empower learners to absorb self-paced learning and develop digital literacy adequately. As per Psychological studies, it is proven that the digital method of teaching and learning creates an environment of disciplined learning and fosters effective student engagement in the classrooms.
The ongoing pandemic has already shaken the existing traditional method of Indian education system both in the urban as well as rural spaces. According to UNESCO, a total of 1.3 billion learners around the world were not able to attend schools or universities. India ranks second after China, in terms of world’s largest school system, with these 320 million learners are affected in India alone. In a way this problematique has opened the doors for plethora of digital innovations in the field of education with shifting Indian education system totally to online mode of learning and creating opportunities for skill development and entrepreneurship.
The Indian education system’s stakeholders have too marched towards adopting the digital technologies to cope with existing crisis of COVID-19. Despite the numerous efforts, question pops up on how inclusive is the current model of digital learning? Does it bring holistic learning outcomes among students from socially and economically marginalized sections of society irrespective of the type of areas they reside in?
In order to bring digital interventions, one need to ponder upon the inclusivity of the initiative with wider reach to the beneficiary audience. No matter how far we go towards the path of technology to make our education system completely digitized, one still cannot go without a teacher. The Guru-Shishya duo is inevitable in academia.
With all these concerns BharatCares (a social impact arm of CSRBOX) has initiated its EdTech programme- Bharat e-Shiksha under its 3L model of Learning, Life skills and Library, by setting up Digital Learning Centre in rural and semi-urban areas Nuh-Haryana, Jaipur-Rajasthan, Ratekdi & Balanjinagar- Pune under the framework of hybrid model of teacher and technology connect which is equipped with daily based interactive learning with pre-loaded digital tablets for class 6th -8th mainly for STEM subjects and English as per the respective State Education Board guidelines, assessment modules to monitor the learning status of each student subsequently, work on areas of improvement and derive conceptual clarity with ultimate aim to foster quality education.
The initiative put emphasis on the holistic development of a child. By penetrating life skills through the virtual life skills building sessions under the learned guidance of domain specific experts. With partial lockdowns and ongoing pandemic, the socialization of students has been completely restricted, which in the longer run can affect them severely. To fix that at a primary level, the initiative has developed an in-house 18-day summer camp for the students that further hones their critical thinking skills, develops creative learning, help them in socializing following the COVID-19 protocols.
It is of paramount importance to contribute to a child’s development when s/he is at the transition towards middle school. During this delicate stage the phenomenon of adolescent egocentrism emerges where they feel deeply self-conscious about themselves and it is very important to make them self-aware and contribute towards their socialization in terms of conflict resolutions, problem solving, group behaviour and peer learning
