Eradication of Malnutrition especially SAM by setting up Bal Poshan Kendra
Despite decades of investments and policies to tackle malnutrition, India’s malnutrition rates are still one of the most alarming in the world. To address this and improve nutrition, we have started working in the Hajipur village of Kalol Taluka in the Gandhinagar district to identify and treat all SAM children of the district to work towards ‘Malnutrition-free Hajipur’. Through interventions like community-level screening, Bal Poshan Kendra, and community-based child management, the project works on improving the health of SAM children of Hajipur village, transforming their life and paving the way for similar interventions in other areas of Gujarat as well. The project works in two phases wherein for the initial 21 days the identified SAM kids are treated at the centre for the entire day wherein the centre team monitors their food, medicines, and health vitals. After 21 days, the kids visit the centre every week for 6 continuous weeks under the Community monitoring plan where the mothers are provided with guidance on their diet and medicines are distributed.
