India has been facing an unprecedented COVID-19 crisis. This grim situation has adversely impacted all facets of life, including the education of children. The situation has worsened majorly for the rural parts of India, which often go invisible in the current times. The ongoing pandemic and school closures make digital education imperative. However, with the low penetration & lack of affordability of technology (internet connectivity and smartphones), a lot of children in rural, as well as town areas, are particularly at a learning loss. This further aggravates the existing gaps in education equity.
The Community Learning Centres is an initiative under the Bharat E-Shiksha program. As the name suggests É- Shiksha, it aims to make quality education accessible with the initiation of a hybrid model of e-learning for underprivileged students. These centres work as a catalyst for the holistic development of the community with the multi-dimensional objective of incorporating e-technologies and other digital tools in the lives of people. The centres cater to three groups it aims to enhance the quality of education delivery to school students, providing vocational skills to adolescents and youth pursuing education or dropouts and women with digital & financial literacy through the use of better digital tools, training and interactive activities.
Our Intervention:
The initiative aims to bridge the learning gap by setting up a Digital Learning Centre, which runs under the learned guidance of well-qualified, tech-driven teachers who acts as a leader of change in the domain of education in his/ her vicinity. Each Digital Learning Centre (DLC) has the capacity to cater to 20-25 candidates at one time who come from marginalized communities facing socio-economic challenges with a lack of provision for online education, relevant academic resources and future-ready skills.
