Bharat Swasthya Sankalp is a dedicated first-of-its-kind initiative, led by BharatCares, committed to revamping and upgrading healthcare in India through localised, community-driven and collaborative efforts. Many PHCs and CHCs in India face resource shortages, lack necessary medical equipment and infrastructure, which affects the quality and scope of services they can provide and contribute to the high disease burden in rural India leading to the current landscape of public health:
Only about 40.5% of PHCs operate 24/7
Only 60% of PHCs in India have all essential equipment and supplies following Ayushman Bharat Guidelines and offer round the clock intrapartum services
The institutional delivery rate in rural areas (86.7%) is lower than in urban areas (93.8%), highlighting a gap in the rural healthcare setup
In rural settings, there is a substantial shortfall in the population served compared to the required standards for PHCs (31% shortfall) and CHCs (36% shortfall)
Approximately 30% of PHCs do not provide any childbirth services
Only 7% of deliveries in rural areas occurred at PHCs
